Well after the past 3 weeks of moving house, having no internet and just basically being a busy little bee, I haven’t been able to do another Thursdays Travel till now!
So what is part 2’s prompt then?
So where did you go on your Honeymoon or where would you like to go when you get married? Did you enjoy it? What was your best or worst part? Would you go to that place again?
We traveled with Thomson Cruises and our ship was the Celebration. The ship was clean, but fairly basic not like the grandeur of P&O or RCI like I was used to. However it 2 swimming pool, a main restaurant, an A La Carte restaurant and the buffet on the top of the ship. The pool area has a hot dog and pizza hatch and there was free tea and coffee all over the ship. We were slightly disappointed to find out that with it being 2nd September the winter season had begun and we couldn’t buy a drinks package. The entertainment was good and there was a daily film. There was a gym which we didn’t try but a spa where we experienced the most fabulous hot stone massage.
We had a 7 night cruise of which our Itinerary was;
Day at Sea
However that is not how it turned out, sat in the lounge hearing about excursions this is where we found out in order to get off in Eidfjord we had to pay to go an excursion, we were very unhappy about this, the rest of speech we booked onto Glacier climbing then went off not pleased.
Then next day we arrive at Eidfjord and watch the people get off, we then travel to Ulvik to find out that another ship has broken down in port and we couldn’t tender to shore so we couldn’t get off the ship again, at this point hubster and I were livid and went to complain, I have to say all of the staff aboard the ship were fantastic couldn’t do enough for you, the Thomson staff could do with learning a trick or 2 from them as they couldn’t care less that this was our Honeymoon that was miss sold and now we couldn’t get off the ship. We got given a free meal and bottle champers in the A la Carte restaurant, it was ok but really didn’t make up for the fact that we had paid out all that money and didn’t get what we paid for.
However the rest of the cruise was fantastic, I can’t rate the Fjords highly
enough, Flam took my breath away, not a blade of grass out-of-place and we took a train ride up the mountain of the most amazing and clean steam train. The glacier climb in Olden was also out of this world. And Bergen was a lovely city with its multi coloured houses and the history of Vikings, just a shame everything costs soooo much money there.
The highlight of our honeymoon was sitting in the hot tub pulling out of port from Flam with a glass of Champagne
in our hand with Enya blasting out in between the valley sides seeing all the most amazing waterfalls, quaint little villages.
It certainly hasn’t put hubster and I off Norway we fell head over heels in love with the place and we still love cruising we would just never recommend going with Thomson you really are better off saving up that extra £150 each and paying for a better cruise line.
